The Latest News in Conservation
Kimber Mfg., Inc., the world's largest manufacturer of 1911-style pistols and manufacturer of fine American sporting rifles, is partnering with the Boone and Crockett Club on an initiative to help the hunting community rise to the challenges of a changing world.
The initiative is called "Trailblazers in Conservation."
If sporting lifestyles - and the conservation successes long funded through hunting and shooting - are to thrive in the future, then today's sportsmen must find a way to balance environmental change, increased energy development, unmitigated urban sprawl, wildlife disease outbreaks, conflicting policies and a host of other challenges.
Through Trailblazers in Conservation, Kimber is backing the Club's work for better scientific wildlife management, balanced policies, hunter advocacy and broader public understanding of the applications and benefits of sustainable-use conservation.
"Kimber is a company of dedicated shooters and hunters who insist that their guns be the best. Clearly, that mindset applies to conservation, too. We're grateful for Kimber's support in our work to make sure political landscapes - and actual landscapes - are the best they can be for hunters and everyone else who cares deeply about wildlife," said Marc Mondavi, vice president of communications for Boone and Crockett.
Mondavi added that Kimber and Boone and Crockett also partner as sponsors of the Hunting Film Tour. The tour features inspiring portrayals of conservationists and fair-chase hunts at more than 75 tour stops across the U.S., Canada and Australia.
"Kimber has a long hunting tradition and as hunters we understand how important conservation is to the sport we all love," said Richard Kirk, Kimber's head of marketing & communications. "We build our products to set the pace for hunters and shooters, and in critical ways, B&C sets the pace for conservation. We are thrilled to provide our support by partnering with this great organization."
The Boone and Crockett Club has been pursuing greater public understanding of hunting and lofty conservation goals since the organization was founded by Theodore Roosevelt in 1887. Club members were instrumental in lobbying for the 1937 Pittman-Robertson Act, which levies an excise tax on ammunition, firearms, bows and arrows as a funding mechanism for conservation.
Boone and Crockett also played a vital role in other milestone conservation measures such as the Lacey Act, federal Duck Stamp program, National Wilderness Preserve Act, Wild and Scenic Rivers Act, Farm Bills from the 1930s to now, and many others.
Kimber joins Leupold & Stevens, Boyt Harness Co., Buck Knives, Swarovski Optik, Bass Pro Shops, Nosler, Hornady, Smith & Wesson, Remington, Winchester Ammunition, Sig Sauer and Sitka Gear as partners in Trailblazers in Conservation.
