Legend has it that if a deer and a bear were able to mate, you would have a beer. Okay, so that’s not entirely true, but if you are a hunter in Massachusetts, you are able to hunt both whitetail deer and black bears. Then you can have a beer. With nearly seven million people in the most populous state in New England, Massachusetts has some surprisingly decent whitetail deer and black bear entries. In fact, the state record non-typical was killed in 2018 (218-5/8) and more recently, the number four black bear was entered in 2020.
