WORLD'S RECORD ROOSEVELT'S ELK

The elk officially scored 455-2/8 points, smashing the old record of 439-7/8 points held by Rick Bailey’s British Columbia bull from 2015.

In 2022, Justin Kallusky was looking for goats in the cliffs above British Columbia’s Stikine River. He and a friend were hunting out of their backpacks and eating freeze-dried meals hoping that a little bit of life outside their comfort zone would yield a good billy. As they were glassing, Kallusky spotted a giant goat butt. The goat was bedded facing uphill and stuffed up under a rock to hide from the sun. The men waited four hours for the goat to stand up. When it did, Kallusky was confused. He couldn’t understand why the goat’s head looked so small. He aimed and pulled the trigger on his Tikka. When he walked up to the goat, Kallusky soon realized why its head looked so small. The horns were just that big.
B&C SCORE: 60-4/8

YEAR TAKEN: 2022

U.S. RECORD ROCKY MOUNTAIN GOAT
Judd Manuel beat the odds long before he stepped off a boat onto the shores of southeast Alaska’s Cleveland Peninsula. His odds of drawing the one goat tag for the unit were less than .25 percent. He’d won the lottery, and he knew it. He and two hunting buddies braved every kind of weather and a lot of tent time waiting for the right moment to hunt a big billy. When the opportunity came, he didn’t hesitate. “I had a great hunt as soon as we left the dock, thanks to the crew that was with me,” Judd said. “Just getting out on public land has been instrumental to my happiness.”
B&C SCORE: 57-4/8
LOCATION: Cleveland Peninsula, Alaska
YEAR TAKEN: 2024

Bo Prieskorn had bought a handful of raffle tickets to support conservation efforts on behalf of elk in Virginia. He thought he might win a rifle or some binoculars. Little did he know that he and his son Austin would participate in an elk hunt a decade in the making. And there was no way for him to know that Austin would shoot a bull that scored 413-7/8 (net) to put him at the top spot for Virginia elk. In fact, it’s the only bull in the Boone and Crockett records book from Virginia, but thanks to current restoration and conservation efforts, it certainly will not be the last.
B&C SCORE: 413-7/8

COLORADO STATE RECORD BIGHORN
When Kevin Neil applied for a bighorn tag in his home state of Colorado in March 2022, he decided to mix things up. After years of putting in for one particular unit, he took his 12 points and tried his luck somewhere new. He talked to a hunting buddy who had mentioned a ghost-like, full-curl ram that would vanish once the season began. He applied to hunt that unit and drew. He had wanted to hunt bighorns since he was 13 years old. At 36, he was finally going. Things went well on that hunt, but his record only lasted two weeks. Here’s Neil’s story—and the ram that nudged him off the podium.

When you enter your trophy into the Boone and Crockett system, you aren’t just honoring the animal and its habitat. You are participating in a data collection system that started in the 1920s and was refined by Club members in 1950. Today, there are nearly 60,000 trophy records. By establishing a records database more than 70 years ago, the Boone and Crockett Club established a scientific baseline from which researchers can use to study wildlife management. If you’re still on the fence about entering your trophy, we encourage you to read Why Should I Bother to Enter My Trophy. To the best of our ability, we ensure that the trophies entered into the records were taken in accordance with the tenets of fair chase ethics. Despite what some may think, the Boone and Crockett records are not about a name or a score in a book—because in the end, there’s so much more to the score.
"The wildlife and its habitat cannot speak. So we must and we will."
