The Latest News in Conservation
The Boone and Crockett Club is out to help the hunting community rise to the challenges of a changing world and Zeiss Sports Optics is the Club's newest partner.
The initiative is called "Trailblazers in Conservation."
If sporting lifestyles -- and the conservation successes long funded through hunting and shooting -- are to thrive in the future, then today’s sportsmen must find a way to balance environmental change, increased energy development, unmitigated urban sprawl, wildlife disease outbreaks, conflicting policies, and a host of other challenges.
Through Trailblazers in Conservation, Zeiss Sports Optics is backing the Club's work for better scientific wildlife management, balanced policies, hunter advocacy and broader public understanding of the applications and benefits of sustainable-use conservation.
Marc Mondavi, vice president of communications for Boone and Crockett, said, "No brand in the outdoors marketplace says 'quality' more than Zeiss, so it's no surprise that Zeiss would invest in quality outdoors for the future. Thanks to their help, we're better positioned to make a difference with programs and policies to benefit habitat, wildlife, landscapes, and the recreational opportunities that all outdoors enthusiasts live for."
Boone and Crockett has been pursuing greater public understanding of hunting and lofty conservation goals since the organization was founded by Theodore Roosevelt in 1887.
Club members were instrumental in lobbying for the 1937 Pittman-Robertson Act, which levies an excise tax on ammunition, firearms, bows, and arrows as a funding mechanism for conservation. Boone and Crockett was vital in other milestone conservation measures such as the Lacey Act, Federal Duck Stamp program, Wilderness Act, Wild and Scenic Rivers Act, Farm Bills from the 1930s to now, and many others.
Michael Jensen, President of Carl Zeiss Sports Optics states, "We as an industry continue to fall short on conservation support efforts. Zeiss has committed time, energy and resources to partner with and support one of the industry’s leading conservation organizations, the Boone and Crocket Club, and their efforts with the Trailblazers in Conservation initiative. We are proud to be a part of this team."
Zeiss Sports Optics joins Boyt Harness Co., Buck Knives, Bass Pro Shops, Nosler, Hornady, Leupold & Stevens, Smith & Wesson, Remington, Winchester Ammunition, Swarovski Optik, Sig Sauer, Sitka Gear, Kimber, and Bushnell as partners in Trailblazers in Conservation.
