Boone and Crockett Club Welcomes Confirmation of Deb Haaland as Secretary of the Interior

PUBLISHED March 16, 2021

MISSOULA, Mont. – The Boone and Crockett Club welcomes last night’s confirmation of Deb Haaland as the new Secretary of the Interior and recognizes this groundbreaking approval of the first Native American to fill a cabinet position. The Club encouraged Secretary Haaland to reference the policy recommendations from the hunting-conservation community in the sixth edition of Wildlife for the 21st Century; the Club helped lead the development of the document with its partners in the American Wildlife Conservation Partners. The recommendations encompass many of the key issues that the Department of the Interior will be engaged on under the leadership of Haaland. In response to the confirmation, Boone and Crockett Club President James F. Arnold stated:

“The Boone and Crockett Club welcomes Interior Secretary Deb Haaland in her role overseeing the conservation and sustainable use of our precious wildlife and natural resources in this country. Our organization has worked for over a century at the forefront of conservation policy discussions and we look forward to the opportunity to bring this experience to the table as the Department of the Interior works to address our 21st Century conservation challenges. Landscape conservation, forest health, climate change, chronic wasting disease, and species management are all key issues that Secretary Haaland will lead for this administration and we welcome the opportunity to develop collaborative conservation actions that will benefit our natural resources as well as the American public.”
