Key Highlights

• 11 States Impacted Alabama, California, Idaho, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana, North Carolina, Texas, and Washington.

New Access

• Southern Maryland Woodlands National Wildlife Refuge – first-ever hunting opportunities.
• Grasslands Wildlife Management Area – newly opened to hunting.
• North Attleboro National Fish Hatchery – first-ever sport fishing access.

Effective Date: The rule went into effect August 27, 2025. New opportunities begin with the 2025–2026 hunting season, starting September 2, 2025.

Conservation and Access: The expansion streamlines regulations, aligns with state rules, and significantly increases public access compared to previous years.

Hunting and fishing provide critical funding for wildlife conservation through license sales and excise taxes. By opening more lands and waters to sportsmen and women, the Service is helping break down barriers to participation and ensuring that conservation traditions continue for future generations.
