The Boone and Crockett Club’s Outdoor Adventure Camps Receive Prestigious Camp Accreditation

PUBLISHED December 12, 2023

DUPUYER, MT — Youth Outdoor Adventure Camps held at the Boone and Crockett Club’s Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Ranch recently earned accreditation from the American Camp Association (ACA). Located on Montana’s Rocky Mountain Front, Outdoor Adventure Camps teach students basic outdoor skills like fishing, hiking, camping, shooting, tracking, and wildlife identification. Campers stay on-site at the Rasmuson Wildlife Conservation Center.

According to the ACA’s website, “ACA is the only national accrediting body for camps of all types. ACA’s accreditation standards focus on health, safety, and risk management and are used as benchmarks by government entities. ACA accreditation provides public evidence of a camp’s commitment to the well-being of campers and staff.”

“The accreditation process helps ensure that we are doing everything we can to provide our students with a fun and safe experience,” says Luke Coccoli, Director of Conservation Programs.

Accreditation through the ACA focuses on a number of standards, including appropriate staff-to-camper ratios, availability of emergency transportation, first-aid training and facilities, and ensuring that camp activities are developmentally based. In addition, ACA standards are recognized by courts of law and government regulators as the standards of the camp community, according to the ACA.

“Officials from the ACA came out to check all of our paperwork, tour the camp, and even tagged along with our campers for a day to see our protocols and the program design we’ve put in place,” says Maddie Todd, Conservation Education Programs Manager.

“The Club is extremely proud of our staff at our Outdoor Adventure Camps,” says Tony A. Schoonen, chief executive officer of the Boone and Crockett Club. “This accreditation illustrates what we’ve known all along—that our camps are a safe, fun, and educational way to get youth involved in the great outdoors.”
