A $250,000 Reminder that Conservation Needs Hunters, Anglers

In recognition of hunters' and anglers' historic and continuing conservation leadership, the American Snuff Company has donated $250,000 to two premiere sporting organizations--the FishAmerica Foundation and the Boone and Crockett Club.

Through online voting, adult tobacco consumers were asked to help the company decide how to allocate its donation. Results: Boone and Crockett received $130,000 while FishAmerica Foundation received $120,000.

The big donation was part of a larger campaign that invited adult tobacco consumers to get involved and help American Snuff Co. make a lasting difference for fish, wildlife and the outdoors. It worked. The Club will use its part of the donation to advance scientific wildlife management, balanced policies, hunter advocacy and broader public understanding of sustainable-use conservation. The FishAmerica Foundation will use its part to support community-based fisheries conservation and habitat restoration.

"We're grateful to American Snuff Co. for helping to remind everyone that conservation succeeds in America because of--rather than in spite of--hunters and anglers," said Keith Balfourd of the Boone and Crockett Club. "We appreciate the generous donation and we're honored to stand alongside the FishAmerica Foundation as recipients."
